Steps to Salvation
Step 1: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The first step to this great salvation is to acknowledge that you are a sinner. You must know that no matter how good you are, you are not good enough to save yourself.
Step 2: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). The second step is to understand that you will pay for your sin with your life. You must know that you deserve to die; you are condemned to death.
Step 3: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). The third step to salvation is to know that God loves the world. He saw His children perishing, going down to Hell, and He tried His best to lift them up.
Step 4: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). The fourth step to salvation is to receive Jesus Christ. Experience will show you that people do not necessarily receive the good things that are given to them. A born-again Christian is someone who has personally received Jesus Christ into his life and is determined to live a life controlled by the Word of God and under the guidance of the Spirit of God.
Step 5: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9, 10).
The fifth step to salvation is to believe in Jesus with your heart and to confess Jesus as Lord. You don't need to con- fess all your sins because you will not remember every- thing, but you need to confess them generally. Again, in order to become born again, a person must do two important things. First, he must believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God... 1 John 5:1
When a person says this prayer and means it from the bottom of his heart, the Spirit of God will then come upon him, and into his heart. Thus, his inner being will be born or produced again. God gives him a new heart and spirit altogether. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them Ezekiel 36:26-27 With that new spirit, he becomes a "new man" or a "new creature", and is ready to live a "new life". This new life is possible because a born-again Christian is actually a new person with a new heart. To be born again is as simple as that. Believe in Jesus. Ask Him into your heart. Confess Him as Lord. And you will be born again.
Step 6: “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17). The sixth step to salvation is to know that the Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom; it is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. The faith we have found is not about meat and drink. It is a spriritual experience. God is trying to make you develop into a righeous and spiritual person.
Step 7: “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24). The seventh step to salvation is to sacrifice your life for Christ. The way to follow Jesus is to deny yourself, say “no” to yourself and to take up your cross. You’ve got to lose something. You must change when you come to Christ. That is the price of salvation.
